AALD Fall Newsletter 2012

Fall Newsletter - September 2012

Dear AALD members,

It has been a busy landscape season and the weather has cooperated fabulously.  I hope everyone is having a successful year.  Your AALD executive has been busy behind the scenes working on the redesign of our website and preparing our fall road trip.

Our new website is up and running at www.aald.ca  Check it out!  If any of your information is incorrect or if you would like to add new info or pictures to your profile, you can contact Ann-Marie Brewer (This email address is being protected from spambots. AALD has had a productive year:

• Higgins Memorial Gardens Design - Completion and delivery of the drawings and planting plan to Tracey MacKenzie of NSAC (now Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture!). We send a big thank you to all the people who worked on the concept during the past several meetings and to Jamey Smith and Ann-Marie Brewer for completing the CAD drawings.

• Elected a new Treasurer, Peggy Wright who takes over from Wendy Coolen who ‘retires’ after serving many years as a valued member of our executive. Sincere thanks to Wendy for all her work with Membership and Treasurer duties.

• Drawing Workshop - Holly Lennox led a workshop on perspective landscape drawing.  Three hours was just getting us started and many of us are looking forward to a full or multi-day workshop to develop our skills.

• Social Media Workshop - William (Bill) Murray provided an overview of the new realities of Marketing in the age of social media. We came away with a better understanding of new ways to interact and build relationships with our clients.

• Ann-Marie Brewer agreed to take on Website updates from our long serving Duncan Kelbough. We send a big thank you to Duncan for his years of producing our Newsletter and our previous website.

• National Certification Committee – Doug Conrad takes over from Ellen Ruddick as our representative on the Certified Landscape Designer Certification Committee.

• Membership invoices and receipts, minutes of meeting, and all general communication is now distributed electronically – ensure you keep us informed if your email address changes.

We look forward to seeing you all at HortEast.  Let us know if you are able to volunteer at our AALD booth during the show.  Also, for members wishing to attend our February meeting and workshops but cannot attend on the proposed date, please suggest an alternative date and I will investigate if a change is feasible.  Keep up-to-date by visiting www.aald.ca for the latest news.
