Friday February 21st

9:45- Welcome  everyone (Collins Building on College Road)

  • 10:00am – Noon – Out Door Play Spaces – with Rhea Dawn Mahar

 AALD member Rhea Dawn Mahar of Mahar Natural Landscape will talk about her work and experiences in creating outdoor play spaces.Being outside is essential for our well-being and especially for children’s development and connection with nature.

This fact has been overlooked for many years as a result of our busy lifestyles; we are now again realizing the importance of outdoor play for healthy development of our children.Rhea has created natural playgrounds in Halifax and other areas.

12:00 – 1:00 – Lunch – provided at the Collins Building

 1:00- 3:00 – Water Management with Rosemary Lohns 

 A workshop with Helping Nature Heal was held in the fall of last year and everyone     enjoyed Rosemary’s gentle approach to nature. Rosemary will talk about how to improve          water-flow and the importance of properly directing water in our landscape designs.

  • 3:00 – 5:00 – Beautiful French Gardens – Bob Howard

AALD member Bob Howard will talk about his trips to France and take us on a beautifulvisual journey to some of his favorite gardens.

  • 5 – 7:00pm: Check into hotel, Supper (Location to be confirmed)
  • 7:00pm – ? Evening Social (details to be confirmed)

 Saturday February 22nd

  • 9:30 – 10:30 – Jeff Morton to give an update on the John Higgins Memorial Garden project.
  • 10:45 -12:30 Annual General Meeting (see agenda)

Charge for talks and meeting will be $50.00 including Friday’s lunch and coffe

AALD Membership Dues of $50 are now due for the 2014 year.  They can be paid at the meeting or mailed directly to Peggy Wright, AALD Treasurer; there is no fee to attend the Annual General Meeting.

For those wanting to stay overnight Thursday in Truro, there is a block of rooms reserved at the Best Western Glengarry for $110.99  under the name AALD. Price is for a double room with two queen size beds and breakfast included for two. Please call them directly to reserve your room at 902-893-4311 prior to February 7th, 2014

Directions to Dalhousie Agriculture Campus:

Traveling from southern Nova Scotia (Including Halifax and Airport)

Take Exit 14 on the Trans-Canada Highway # 102 at Truro. Turn right when coming off of the exit ramp.

You are now on Robie Street. At the second set of traffic lights turn left and proceed along Marshland Drive until you reach a four-way stop. Turn left onto Park Street and proceed over the bridge to the first set of lights. Turn right at the lights. You are now on Main Street in Bible Hill.

Collins Horticultural Building, 160 College Road

Go through the next set of traffic lights and take the first road on the left after the lights. You are now on College Road.

Go the top of the hill and you will see a black building on your right. This is the Collins Horticultural Building (Building #10 on the campus map). Parking is available at the front and side of this building as well as in the parking lot located across the street.
